The KCC is a non-profit organization working with Nepalese climbers and high-altitude workers in the Mt. Everest area. Their goal is to increase responsible climbing practices within Nepals economically vital tourism and guiding industry. Mock serves as co-director of the KCC located in Phortse, Nepal, just 15 miles from the base of Mt. Everest.
Sherpa’s father was involved with the 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary Everest expedition. Sherpa served as a base camp cook for author Jon Krakauer’s 1996 Everest expedition. Krakauer’s book about the trip, “Into Thin Air,” tells the story of the tragic events that killed eight climbers on the mountain.
Sherpa will share stories from the expeditions he’s been involved with and a slideshow will be presented.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes complimentary Nepalese food. Beverages will also be served.
