On Dec. 5, 2018, the English Department at Montana Western inducted three new members into its Alpha Epsilon Lota chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an international honor society.
Courtney George from Big Fork, Mont., Melody McHaley from Philipsburg, Mont., and Cassandra Punohu from Anaconda, Mont., have all attained high academic achievement in the field of English studies.
The Society strives to provide cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities. They foster all aspects of the English disciplines including literature, language, and writing.
“The English Department is proud of these students’ high achievements and commitment to the study of literature,” said Bethany Blankenship, English professor at UMW.
While conferring distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies, the society also exhibits high standards of academic excellence by enriching literacy.
Punohu feels being a part of this society complements her academic goals. She is excited to grow and learn as a student through Sigma Tau Delta. Membership in the Society also includes having the opportunity to submit personal works.
“Maholo nui loa for this opportunity, Sigma Tau Delta,” said Punohu, which means thank you very much in Hawaiian.
