U.S. News defines regional colleges according to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education and states these schools focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts.
Montana Western is also ranked 21st overall in the West for Regional Colleges.
According to U.S. News, Montana Western improved upon last years overall score by 12 points, boasting a 70 percent average freshman retention rate, a 20:1 student-to-professor ratio and tying for 13th place in the region for percentage of classes with under 20 students (68 percent). U.S. News also ranked Montana Western with the highest percentage in the entire region of faculty who are full time at 90 percent and the third highest average annual alumni giving rate in the region at 17 percent.
Chancellor Richard Storey said he continues to be proud of the Montana Westerns performance in the national rankings.
Our continued success in this ranking is due to the hard work of the entire campus, Storey said. Montana Westerns prosperity as a whole is directly attributed to the individual and collective successes of our faculty, staff and, most importantly, our students.
