UMW leads MUS in new freshmen enrollment

March 26, 2013

Montana Western also shared the lead with Montana State University-Bozeman with a 27-percent increase in combined resident and non-resident first-time degree-seeking freshman in the comparison.

The report, released by MUS Associate Commissioner Tyler Trevor, compares figures from Fall 2008 to Fall 2012 for students defined as first-time degree-seeking freshmen (students who have no prior experience attending any institution at the undergraduate level).

University of Montana Western Chancellor Richard Storey said a number of factors are contributing to the university’s success.

“Our unique Experience One, one-class-at-a-time approach to learning has been a phenomenal success and continues to draw students who realize the many advantages it provides,” Storey said.

“Our unique Experience One, one-class-at-a-time approach to learning has been a phenomenal success and continues to draw students who realize the many advantages it provides,” Storey said. “In addition, our outstanding faculty, including four Carnegie Foundation Professors of the Year in a row, and our dedicated staff create an environment where student success is paramount.”

Montana Western’s results come at a time when higher education experts nationwide are beginning to raise attention to the overall stagnation and decrease in college and university enrollment.
