UMW Receives E.B. Craney Award for Wildlife Outfitters Degree Option Commercial

November 18, 2020

The University of Montana Western Communications Department, in partnership with ABC Fox Montana, received the E.B. Craney Award from the Montana Broadcasting Association for its commercial on the Outdoor Guide and Wildlife Outfitters business degree option.

The E.B. Craney Awards are named in memory of Montana broadcast pioneer Ed Craney. The awards recognize excellence in local news, production, promotion and public service and are presented annually during the Montana Broadcasting Association convention.

The Montana Western Outfitting commercial was produced by Frank Palazzi and Brian Mellott from KWYB-TV, Butte, with assistance from Jackie Rawson, UMW faculty, staff and students, and the local outfitter and guide community and won “Television Commercial of the Year.” To watch the commercial, visit the University of Montana Western’s Facebook page.

The awards are sponsored through the generosity of the Greater Montana Foundation which Craney established to encourage communication, with an emphasis on electronic media, on issues and trends of importance to Montanans.

The Business and Technology Department at UMW offers a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with several available minors including Outdoor Guide and Wildlife Outfitters Enterprise Management and Farm and Ranch Operations. For more information, please call 877-683-7331 or email [email protected].

The University of Montana Western is the only U.S. public university offering a block scheduling program in which students take one course at a time using an innovative approach called Experience One. With Experience One, students concentrate on one course for 18 days, take a short break, and then move on to their next course.

“UMW offers several unique degrees and options that can’t be found anywhere else. This minor in wildlife outfitters management, combined with the Business Administration major, allows students to graduate with the knowledge they need to be successful in starting their own outfitting or guiding business, a significant portion of Montana’s economy each year,” said Matt Raffety, Director of Communications at Montana Western.

Those interested in Experience One and learning more about UMW’s degree offerings are encouraged to visit the University of Montana Western’s website for more information: www.umwestern.edu.
