UMW selects new director for student counseling.

“We are pleased to bring someone with Jerry’s experience into the position,” Hazelbaker said. “The director plays a very important role on campus with the formulation of policies and procedures for how best to serve our students.”

Girard previously worked as a counselor under the supervision of former Director for Student Counseling Lynn Weltzien. Weltzien retired at the end of the 2016 school year.

“I’m excited to continue working with the students, faculty and staff of Montana Western,” Girard said. “Our program is in a strong place and I’m eager to keep building a program that is understanding and responsive to student needs.”

Girard is a licensed clinical professional counselor and a licensed addiction counselor. He previously taught high school for 13 years.

He will assume his new responsibilities in August 2016.
