Policy
The University of Montana Western offers a variety of intercollegiate athletic programs that provide student athletes with the opportunity to compete with other student athletes from other institutions with similar governance and philosophy.

The athletic program is designed to enhance the educational mission of the institution and to provide a basis for institutional and community spirit.

Procedures
The intercollegiate athletic program at UMW is governed by the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Frontier Conference (football, basketball, XC track and field & volleyball); the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and the Big Sky Conference (rodeo); the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), Zone 8, Region 3 (equestrian); and the policies of the Montana University System. The program offerings are:
