Peer Mentoring

The mission of TRIO Student Support Services Mentor Program at the University of Montana Western is to ensure all program participants know they belong at Montana Western and have a direct connection to someone who cares. Our mentors are experienced students who are actively involved in many campus groups and activities.

Peer mentors are committed to providing new students, both freshmen and transfer, with holistic support by drawing upon resources from the campus and Dillon community.

The TRIO SSS Mentor Program works in conjunction with the First Year Experience (FYE) to provide the entire incoming class with guidance and the opportunity for individualized services.

Program Goals

  • Ensure participants know they are an important part of the UMW Community.
  • Model positive academic and social skills to enhance students’ resiliency.
  • Increase the retention and graduation rate of students.
  • Create a community of students to share experience knowledge.

If interested in participating in the mentor program, as either a mentor or mentee, please contact Valerie Boggs at [email protected].
